The Online Permit Center provides public access to the current status of permits and inspection requests, as well as access to reference materials and documentation. As a registered user, an applicant can also apply for permits and request inspections online.

BULLETIN: WATER SERVICE INSTALL & ABANDONMENTS
Water service install and abandonment work will no longer be performed by the City (eff. 12/1/24)
Starting on December 1st, 2024, all new requests for water service installs or water service abandonments will be the responsibility of the project contractor. The City of Olympia Drinking Water Operations team will continue to provide service installs for permits applied for prior to December 1st. Contractors performing water service installs or abandonments will be subject to Contractor Requirements for Working in the Right-of-Way

PERMIT APPLICATION AND PROCESSING TIME:
After submitting, please allow 48-72 hours to receive an e-mail response regarding the status of your permit application. Permits are not valid until approved, paid for, and issued. If all requested submittals have not been received and plan review fees have not been paid within 48 hours, the permit application will be cancelled.
Prior to applying for a permit, please review the permit application checklists found in the documents tab below for required submittal(s). Incomplete permit applications will be valid for 30 days, after which all permits in a "NOT SUBMITTED" status will be cancelled.
INSPECTION REQUEST SCHEDULING AND VIRTUAL INSPECTIONS:
*Please note the cutoff time for next day inspection requests is 5:00pm*. Most inspections are conducted between the hours of 8:00am – 3:00pm. Inspectors will be available to contact between the hours of 7:00am – 3:30pm.

BULLETIN: 2021 IBC UPDATE
The 2021 Building Codes went into effect on March 15th, 2024. All new permit applications deemed complete on or after that date shall comply with the updated codes. Free online access to the 2021 State Codes are available on the State Building Code Council’s website.
BUSINESS LICENSING
City of Olympia business licenses are handled through the Washington State Department of Revenue. If your business is located in your home, there are additional requirements in the City of Olympia for home based occupations. More information is available on City’s Business Licensing webpage.
